The BPsych degree is designed for students who wish to pursue a career within the psychological field. It is a 4 year degree which focuses specially on training students to specialise as trauma counsellors. The students will gain in-depth knowledge of major paradigms, principles, methods and theories of psychology and human behaviour. The degree, however, is not purely academic and includes a six month internship which forms part of the final year. During their internship the students will put into practise the theory they have studied. Upon completion of the BPsych, students will have the opportunity to write the HPCSA’s (Health Professionals Counsel of South Africa) board exam. Once they have passed this exam the students may register as trauma counsellors.

The focus of the BPsych is on psychology and particularly counselling and as a result there are no majors in the degree.
