Background information
Midrand Flame use to be called Midpoint, which was a student magazine started prior to 2007. It was initially sponsored by the journalism students of Midrand Graduate Institute (MGI). The publication was used as a part of the assessment strategy for the third year journalism students.
It was intended to be a legacy maintained and sustained by students, but the publication did not survive because of many factors, one being lack of finance.
However, In January 2009, the Journalism and Public Relations Department decided to revive Midpoint but with a new masthead, now known as Midrand Flame.
This monthly publication is entirely managed by the students. Midrand Flame helps to bridge the communication gap between students, providing information on students issue and events happening in and around campus. It also creates an opportunity for the students to sharpen their writing skills and help to instill a professional work ethic in preparation for the job market. |
