The residence is run by the Residence Manager, who stays on the premises and assists students with all matters related to their stay in the residence. Total Capacity: 409 students 

 

Accommodation consists of:

MGI Flatlets Information:

  • 7 blocks named after famous South African writers
  • 2 male blocks: Mpe and Mhlope (50 students)
  • 1 shared block: Mphalele, Men upstairs, ladies downstairs (50 students)
  • 4 female blocks: Kuzwayo, Mda, Paton and Dangor (50 students per block) 
All flatlets are self catering and are equipped to accommodate three students in single rooms. The bedrooms are furnished with a bed, study table, chair, bookshelf and curtains. Students are more than welcome to bring their own personal belongings if they wish, to make their stay in the residence as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, it is your “home away from home.” The flatlets are equipped with a bath/shower, toilet and 2 wash basins.  In addition there is a lounge and a kitchenette consisting of a fridge and a stove where students can prepare their own meals. A small dining room table is also provided.

  

Each block has two TV rooms where the students can sit and relax and watch programmes of their choice or have a relaxing time with friends and fellow students.

 

Makeba House consists of: 

  • 28 Rooms which housing 2 students per room sharing. 

The units consist: 

  • Kitchenette equipped with a hot plate and fridge
  • 2 beds
  • 2 Study desks
  • 2 chairs
  • 2 book shelves
  • Bathrooms with a shower, basin and toilet. 

Services available to residence students

A sick bay/room for residence students is available, directly opposite in the residence manager’s office.

 

A Laundry is available for students own use, coin operated in the following blocks:

Ladies: Paton House                               

Gents: Mhlope House

At Makeba House there is also a fully operational Laundry service where you washing and ironing will be done at very affordable prices and the delivered back to your room.

 

There is a shuttle service available to the students; bookings are subject to terms and conditions. This ca n be used for shopping, movies, outings as well as take them to and from home.

 

Student parking is available for students and visitors at the entrance of Umbhali place. 24 Hour security is provided to ensure the safety of both students and visitors.
