BA Graphic Design

The BA Graphic Design course is a three year course that offers students a thorough grounding in Graphic Design practice. Students are exposed to the theoretical, historical, technical and aesthetic aspects of Graphic Design. The course includes modules requiring both hand work such as Drawing and Applied Colour and Design Theory as well as computer based design, such as Digital Design and 3D Animation. Students make use of the latest software packages to produce a range of creative designs relevant to industry and community needs. There is a choice of two options in third year to major in multimedia or advertising. Students should have a keen interest in advertising and display creativity in their thinking and images.

BA Journalism

The students studying for the BA Journalism learn about gathering, interpreting and distilling news and making use of a variety of media to report news. Majors subjects include writing for print and broadcast, English and Media Theory. Students do a range of additional modules such as Photojournalism, Political Science and Media Law and have a choice of elective modules. All students are required to do an internship in their third year. Students in their second year can apply to work on the student newsletter that is published on a monthly basis. Students interested in pursuing journalism as a career should have a keen interest in politics, history, the media and have an inquisitive mind.

BA Public Relations

The BA Public Relations equips students to enter the exciting world of public relations. The course is structured around the majors of Communication Science, Public Relations and Media Theory. Students engage in a portfolio project in third year in which they provide an NGO or start up company with a Public Relations plan. They are also required to do an internship at an appropriate company that may specialise in event management, public relations, corporate communication, conflict management or government liaison. Students looking to study in this field should be outgoing, keen to network, good communicators and be able to adapt and to think on their feet.

Diploma in Fashion Design

The Diploma in Fashion design covers the process of designing clothing through to the final making of the outfits. Students are required to complete a range of modules including Drawing, Illustration, Pattern Construction, Garment Production, Textiles as well as theoretical subjects such as History of Fashion and Fashion Buying. The course requires students to produce a number of projects where they design and make their own garments. Students should have a keen interest in fashion, sewing and show their creativity through drawings and clothing.
