The MGI men’s basketball team came out on top of the league against teams like University of Witwatersrand (WITS) and Vaal University of Technology (VUT) in the league final. The team has come first four times over the last six years.

The team played the VUT team and beat them by a convincing 14 points, and booked themselves a date with Grace Bible Church (GBC) for the finals.

The team did not start the final well, and were trailing by six points at the end of the first quarter of play. The team made a strong come back during the second quarter and were ahead by 4 points at half-time. The third quarter won the match for the team, as they won it 24-7, and GBC seemed to have no reply to the tactics the team brought to them. The team won the match 86-89.

Unfortunately, a member of the basketball team, Mutala Benji Muwelela, a 3^rd year student sustained an injury. He was taken to Carstenhof, where a nurse cleaned and bandaged his wound, and will receive stitches soon.

The basketball season is almost over for the team, but there are a few tournaments to look forward to that will be towards the end of October and in November.
